Our new recording is done! Killing Season was mixed at Studio 606 by Nick Raskulinecz and mastered at Bernie Grundman Mastering by none other than Brian "Big Bass" Gardner. It is slated for release on February 26 in the US and February 29 in the rest of the world. Leap year 2008!
Here is the track listing:
Lord of Hate
Sonic Beatdown
Dethroned
Carnival Justice
Buried Alive
Soulless
The Noose
When Worlds Collide
God vs God
Steal the Crown
Resurrection Machine
Nick began mixing on November 7, I joined him at 606 on the 19th and we finished the mixes 2 days later… just in time for Tanksgibin! The masters were sent over to BGM in Hollywood on December 4th and I arrived the next day for the session with Brian. By 6pm that evening I was on my way to the Roxy with a reference cd in hand… just in time for the listening party!
The party itself was a BLAST! "On the Rox" was loaded full of our friends, family and industry associates who enjoyed an open bar hosted by the US division of our label, Nuclear Blast America. Everyone chopped it up as drinks were consumed in mass quantities, all the while ROCKING to our new album for the first time… needless to say it was hella FUN! Totally elating to witness a bar room full of music fans partying to our latest offering of jams! Best of all, the entire band was there, working the crowd like we do and loving it! The night concluded in the usual scenario of laughter, hugs, puke and blackouts! Can't wait for the next one! Thanks to NB and all who attended!
Next day was a hung-over blur of meetings and business dealing that eventually found me back at the mastering lab meeting up with BG to make a few adjustments and print the final master. Then I raced to airport, barely making my flight home with a copy of the finished disc in hand… just in time to get back home with the latest slab of Bay Area Thrash Metal completed on December 6th which happens to be the birthday of my original inspiration to play guitar… the late great Randy Rhoads. How's that for a good sign?
Yeah, I know this blog is a week late but daddy's been busy, kids! Been bouncing back and forth from Nor Cal to So Cal takin care o bidness! Artwork should be done any day now (c'mon Hiro!) and of course Den will do the layout and turn it over to NB… then it's a wrap! Interviews have already started and we've heard some GREAT feedback from the press already (see below) so now Killing Season has truly begun… stay tuned for more news soon, my friends! It is ON!!!

Wuzzup Peeps!
As I come out of the haze and begin to become unglazed from spawning our most recent effort in this life of music… “Killing Season” is almost here!
We finished recording last week and after a manic b’day weekend which took me to Vegas to see Rage Against The Machine / Muse then back to LA to catch QOTSA then back to Oakland for Halloween… I was able to get my bearings and throw down an update so here it is!
I am pleased to announce we have decided that Nick (Raskulinecz, our producer) will mix the album. The reference “rough” mixes we have been listening to are blowing our minds and we don’t think anyone could do a better job taking the mix to the next level and beyond! Wait till you hear this disc, my friends, you will hear us like you never have before! This shit is SLAMMIN!!!!!!!
Mixing starts later today (it’s 3am right now, children) so I better hit the sack so I can get a couple hours of shuteye and get them ears fresh to hear me some final mixes… hell yeah!
Check out my photo section for new pics from the Killing Season recording session.
Stay sweet and have a great summer!

Good evening, beauties and beasts!
Rob here dropping in with a quick studio update. We are posted up in Los Angeles getting into some serious musical activity. Drove down a week ago and started off with a couple days of final pre -production. We took the songs even further, jamming for hours and digging deep into the details and arrangements. They are now ready to be recorded… let’s do this!
We started tracking on Wednesday and it sounds insane! Raw drum tones are huge! Andy is totally ripping it up, best he’s ever been! To top it off, we have the most awesome production team yet. Nick, Lou, Fig, John and Dave are totally on top of their shit. Fuckin pro’s, man!
By Tuesday we should be knee deep in guitar tracking heaven. Besides all my own gear, there is a shitload of guitars, amps, cabinets, effects and every damn thing to experiment with waiting to be played this week. Can’t wait to attack and throw down some axe trax…
Needless to say we are enjoying the process of recording this album to the fullest. We can’t wait for you all to hear it. I’ll be back with more another progress report in the near future. Until then, take care of your beautiful selves.
G’nite,
~Rob
Greetings Fellow Earthlings!
I am thrilled to announce that DEATH ANGEL will enter the studio to begin tracking our new album on September 16 with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush, Velvet Revolver, Shadows Fall, Stone Sour) in Los Angeles.
Nick came up and did pre-production with us at our studio in Oakland and we had a BLAST. The vibe is certainly ON and we are beyond excited to start tracking with him! Recording should be complete by the end of October and mixed by November. This will undoubtedly be our best sounding record ever!
This album is gonna be insane. The songs are so fuckin heavy and wicked! Musically brutal. Brutally musical. This shit will wake you up!
Here we go into the beautiful twilight zone of recording the album… See you on the other side!
~Rob

The jam last night was one of the best yet. As we approach the final phase of writing for this album, we are so locked in its insane. After months of attacking the mission to create a slab of heaviness that will satisfy our voracious hunger for THRASH, we have arrived at our destination!
The plan is to continue writing for the next couple of weeks and enter the recording studio by September. I will kick down the details soon as to who we will choose to work with and where. Also will throw some song titles your way, perhaps the album title as well... but not yet! Sit tight now, children...
Back to the music. Fuckin heavy as fuck! Dark vibe throughout, twisted and maniacal. Brutally solid and melodic at once. Urgent and triumphant driven by pain and angst. Different cuts keep getting stuck in my head as the obsession with this record deepens. It's crushing and oh so tasty!
Dying to give you the details, but not until the word is final (you know how we do) so keep checking back. I promise not to keep you waiting like I usually do! We can't help it if we are the unconventionally ambiguous bastards of thrash!
Thanks for sticking with us. Prepare for a sonic beat down!

Wuzzup Kids!
Dropping a line to let you know what's going on in the DA camp these days. We've been jamming out at our studio in Oakland, creating a new album which we plan to release later this year. Good vibes are flowing! Can't wait for you to feel it…
We're pretty much going to lay low on the live shows until we get the album completed. In fact, we did not plan to do any shows at all before summer but then we got invited to play in the Philippines! "Pulp Summer Slam Seven" takes place at Amoranto Stadium in Manila and we can't wait to hit that outdoor stage in the sizzling heat… it's gonna be insane!
Ok, maybe one or two of the summer festivals in Europe, its torture passing those up!
Other than that it's all about getting that "studio tan" but you can bet your sweet ass that we'll be coming your way after we drop our new disc on ya…
I also want to thank each and every one of you who continue to support and enjoy our music. You make us feel so warm and fuzzy.
Cheers!
~Rob

Hey Guys!! It's Mark here. Thank you for all the support. You guys Fucking rule!!! Just letting you know that I have a new band. Don't get me wrong. I still sing for Death Angel. But while there is this bit of down time. I needed to keep busy. So new is this band that we don't even have a name yet. But I'm lovin it. And it's fun as hell playing again. Probably won't start playing out till early next year. The Music is more straight ahead Balls out rock. (Mc5/ The Bronx) short punchy songs. Very in your face!! For those of you from the Bay Area. The band consists of a couple of guys from Lica-sto, a guy from Tres Pistolas, a guy who was in The Sick, and The OOzies, and a guy from Death Angel!! (me). We have like 6 songs, and more keep coming fast. I'll keep you all posted. But I assure you this does not mean Death Angel is dead. I can't wait to be on stage again with them. But Music is my life, and I can only stay still for so long!! I also can't wait to play out with these guys. It's FUCKING FUN man!! Until then, I'll keep you posted. I miss every one of you beautiful mother fucker's. See you soon. But never soon enough for me.

In this interview with Mark done by phone on the eve of Death Angel's departure for a major European series of festivals, we decided to avoid usual themes like the background for disbanding and the purpose of getting back together, since they are all covered in detail on the band's official side. Our goal was to explore what's less publicized, but no less interesting.

Interview with Mark Osegueda of Death Angel.
(Thanks to "Rocktribune" Mario Mortier)
At the age of, say, 12 or 15, when you’re playing in a band, it’s for fun, and not for the money. Probably dreaming of honour and glory, seeing yourself becoming the hero of the day on a big festival stage… but that’s about it most of the times. It turned out slightly different for the five young Philippine thrashers annex nephews of Death Angel as they got thrown from one adventure into another in the mid-eighties. They were facing huge success at a very young age, with the two strong albums “The Ultra Violence” and “Frolic Through The Park” behind them. Everything fell apart though after the fabulous album “Act III”. The band went through a lot of name changes, while in the end no one really knew what was going on anymore. The band leader Mark Osegueda tries to explain what happened.
